The J.D. Brown Center for Entrepreneurship strives to provide a solid connection between students studying entrepreneurship and companies throughout the region. Two benefits result from this connection; first, the application and enhancement of student knowledge, and, second, providing valuable, growth-oriented ventures.
Qualified students are provided with a unique opportunity through the generous (naming gift) program to train directly with entrepreneurs and senior leaders of high growth companies. A comprehensive entrepreneurship education includes the challenge for students to apply their knowledge in real-world business situations.
Through alliances with our Center Founders and other strategic partners, the Center offers internships in the following areas:
• New venture development
• Private equity
• Product enhancement
• Corporate entrepreneurship
• Technology commercialization
Projects our interns may work on include:
• Developing business plans
• Market assessments
• Prototype development
• Validating financial forecasts
• Assist with raising capital
• Web site development
Entrepreneurs understand the importance of gaining real-world experience. Our interns are placed in opportunities to assist companies with financial planning, business development, conducting market research, and other activities related to starting and growing businesses. Placements are highly competitive.
Students should pursue an internship strongly related to their major. Information about internships is available through career services and the J.D. Brown Center. The Center places its interns in start-up and high-growth companies. Once a list of potential internships is acquired, students should contact internship employers and begin the placement process. Once placed in an internship, students will need the approval of both the department chair and internship director before the student may receive credit.
